A Lot of people have the wrong impression of money due to how some individuals abuse the use of money and the societal stigma surrounding it.
But imagine the powerful story of the Good Samaritan in the Bible; if, with all his good intentions, he did not have money, you would never have heard of him. Money, in the right hands, can do incredible good.

We are going to look at the 20 COMMANDMENTS OF MONEY below:

1. MONEY IS FOR GOOD, NOT FOR EVIL

The love of money is evil, not money itself. Use money to impact humanity positively, just as the Good Samaritan did. His generosity was the catalyst for his story being told.

2. GET ADVICE ABOUT MONEY FROM QUALIFIED PERSONS

Proverbs 11:14: “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors, there is safety.”
Professional financial advisors and experts can help you make informed, sound decisions. As the world’s top accounting firms make billions from consulting, it’s clear that wisdom and expertise in money management bring value.

3. GUARD AGAINST GREED

Even when you have excess money, your life does not depend on it. Use sound financial principles instead of letting greed control your actions. Wealth must be built with patience and discipline. Many people have lost money through greed—particularly in speculative markets like cryptocurrencies and high-risk investments.

4. PLAN AND BUDGET MONEY

Lack of financial planning can lead to disaster.
Luke 14:28-30: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?”
A solid plan ensures success and prevents failure. Budgeting helps you track and prioritize your spending.

5. START WITH THE RESOURCES YOU HAVE

Proverbs 11:14: “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.”
Don’t wait for perfect circumstances; start with what you have, no matter how small. Incremental growth is the key to financial success.

6. GIVE OUT MONEY TO THE LESS PRIVILEGED

There is more happiness in giving than receiving.
Proverbs 19:17: “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord, and that which he hath given will He pay him again.”
Generosity aligns you with divine principles, and it creates opportunities to bless others.

7. AVOID DEBT WHERE POSSIBLE

The borrower is servant to the lender (Proverbs 22:7). Strive to solve financial problems with savings and cash flow, not debt. Avoid living beyond your means, as debt can lead to financial bondage.

8. USE MONEY TO BENEFIT HUMANITY AND TO LIVE WITH GODLY PRINCIPLES

Money is a tool for advancing goodness, spreading the gospel, and helping others. When you use money wisely, you honor God and benefit others.

9. IT TAKES HARD WORK TO MAKE MONEY

Genesis 3:19: “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground.”
Hard work is the foundation of wealth. No shortcuts or easy paths exist to sustainable financial prosperity.

10. SCATTER YOUR BREAD

Ecclesiastes 11:1-2: “Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.”
Diversify your investments and your efforts. Just as bread scattered across the waters returns, wise investments yield returns over time.

11. BUILD A FINANCIAL RESERVE

Proverbs 6:6-8: “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”
The ant teaches us the importance of saving and preparing for the future. Like the ant, we should store up resources for hard times.

12. DON’T TRUST IN UNCERTAIN RICHES

1 Timothy 6:17: “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.”
Wealth is fleeting, so don’t place your trust in money. Instead, trust in God as your ultimate provider.

13. AVOID QUICK RICH SCHEMES

Proverbs 13:11: “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labor shall increase.”
Get-rich-quick schemes rarely lead to lasting wealth. Honest work and consistent effort are the foundation for building a strong financial future.

14. BE HONEST IN YOUR DEALINGS

Proverbs 11:1: “A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is His delight.”
Integrity in financial dealings honors God and ensures long-term prosperity. Dishonest business practices invite trouble.

15. MAKE WISE INVESTMENTS

Proverbs 21:5: “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.”
Wise investments require patience and research. Rushing into high-risk ventures can lead to failure. Take your time to make informed decisions.

16. CREATE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME

Ecclesiastes 11:6: “In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.”
Diversifying your income streams helps ensure financial stability. You don’t know which investments will yield the greatest return, so spread your efforts wisely.

17. AVOID LAZINESS

Proverbs 18:9: “He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.”
Laziness leads to financial ruin. Diligence and hard work are necessary for accumulating wealth.

18. LEARN FROM YOUR FINANCIAL MISTAKES

Proverbs 24:16: “For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again.”
Don’t be discouraged by setbacks. Learn from mistakes, rise up, and continue to grow financially.

19. STAY HUMBLE IN PROSPERITY

Proverbs 30:8-9: “Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord?”
Humility is important in both poverty and wealth. Stay grounded, remembering that everything you have is a gift from God.

20. USE YOUR WEALTH TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL

Matthew 28:19-20: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”
Use your resources not only for personal gain but to help spread the Gospel and support Godly causes.

Summary:
Wealth, when used in alignment with godly principles, has the power to do great things. The Bible offers profound wisdom on money, advising us to budget, plan, avoid greed, and work hard. These principles, combined with generosity, humility, and financial discipline, create a balanced approach to wealth—one that honors God and benefits humanity.
