 Some believe that the safest investment is cash in the bank or real estate investment.

Investment can be termed as safe when you get back your original capital with a reasonable return when you need it.

With this definition we cannot conclude that cash is safe because the purchasing power must have been eroded when you need the cash due to inflation; moreover we may not classify real estate as safe due to inability to quickly convert to cash when needed for emergency.

Safest investment is the portfolio of investment that safeguard capital while maintaining reasonable return and liquidity over a long term.
